L.A. duo BLUUM describe their sound as “guitar music your older cousin likes,” and that’s fair enough—the comparison lands: gritty, unpretentious, unbothered, and a little too cool to care whether anyone is impressed.
Their self-titled debut, “Tough Break, Kid” is scuffed-up and unpolished in the right way, all loose edges and no apologies. “Lolia” softens the register and earns it.
Nothing here is trying to be more than it is; the fun is real, and that remains the single best foundation for a rock record.
