Spanish DJ and producer Danny Avila says that he started DJing almost before he knew how to ride a bike.
"I started playing instruments when I was six years old, and since then, my life has just revolved around music," Avila says. "I started DJing when I was 12 and started making music just one or two years after that. I remember it was all I wanted to do. At the time, all the kids my age just wanted to hang out after school and go do things, but I only cared about going back to my little room and DJing. And it has stayed like that ever since."
Avila says that his sound has taken different directions throughout the years. "I’d say I finally found my signature in the past two or three years," he says. "I’ve settled into a sound that lives somewhere between techno and tech house. I love the energy and strength of techno, but I come from house and tech house, so it’s important for me to always keep a good groove in both my tracks and my sets. I feel like I’m always looking for that hi-hat-and-clap kind of percussion in anything I do."
Avila's latest release is "Welcome 2 Miami," a collab with Nicole Moudaber.
"Something I’ve liked to do for many years is go out and listen to other DJs play to get inspired," he says. "I used to go to Space Miami because I lived just two blocks away, and one night I came back with the idea of making a record dedicated to it. I started writing down some lyrics and came up with that hook. I thought it was sick, so I started building a track around it. Once I had a first sketch, I sent it over to Nicole because I thought she was the perfect fit for the record. She was into it and wanted to jump on the vocals herself, so I let her do her thing. After a few versions back and forth, we came up with 'Welcome 2 Miami'."
As for gear: "I'm currently switching to a new set up so im adding the XONE k3 and NI X1 and have been in love with the new rmx ignite for throwing samples!"
Looking ahead, Avila has plenty planned for the rest of 2026. "I have a big South America tour coming up in August," he says. "I’m going to be there for about a month and a half, playing some of my favorite venues over there. After that, I’m heading to Asia for another run of shows! In terms of music, I have a lot of records that I’ve been testing in my sets and constantly tweaking until the very last minute. The next one after 'Welcome 2 Miami' is coming out in September!"
