There comes a point when heartbreak stops asking questions and starts offering answers.
For New York singer-songwriter ROREY, that realization became I Get It Now, her forthcoming album arriving Aug. 14. Written over fifteen months, the record traces the slow unraveling of a relationship that neither love nor hope could save. Rather than searching for a happy ending, ROREY documents what it feels like to finally accept one.
"I write from emotional survival," she says matter-of-factly. Her songs aren't written after the storm has passed—they're created in the middle of it. During our conversation, ROREY spoke candidly about living with bipolar disorder, using songwriting as therapy, and discovering that the hardest part of healing wasn't losing someone else, but learning not to abandon herself. That honesty gives I Get It Now its quiet power. There's no posturing here, only a songwriter willing to leave every emotion on the page.
That same emotional precision extends beyond the music. Working alongside longtime collaborators Scott Effman and filmmaker Demetrios (Jimmy) Giannopoulos, ROREY has built a visual world that feels as cinematic as her lyrics. Whether through the noir-inspired imagery of her latest single "Binary Thinking" or the unforgettable storytelling in "Hurts Me to Hate You," every creative decision serves the same purpose: telling the truth as faithfully as possible.
When the conversation turned to what she hopes listeners hear in the new album, ROREY's answer summed up both the record and the artist behind it. "I hope people hear their own heartbreak in it," she said. "This album has no ego and no pride. I am not posturing. I am devastated." In an era where so much music feels carefully filtered, ROREY's willingness to be completely exposed may be her greatest strength.
