U.K. house artist Sam Divine started DJ’ing in 2001.
"I entered a DJ competition in my local club," she says. "I won the competition then went onto to be the resident DJ and junior booker and I started promoting my own event called 'Sundays are Divine' whilst working part time as a House buyer in a record shop. In 2005 I did my first season in Ibiza and by 2009 I was events manager for Defected Records at Pacha. I was signed to their DJ Roster at the end of that summer and became the first female DJ to be signed. That’s when things got pretty serious for me, my tour schedule was hectic from there. My first international show was in South America. Production came much later. I didn’t put my first record out till 2015."
Regarding her sound, Divine says that it resonates deeply with my brand 555.
"[It] has always been centered around uplifting music that spreads positivity, inspiration, and good energy," she says. "After rebranding my record label, I became even more intentional about creating music that connects emotionally with my community. I always want to encourage people to feel empowered, motivated, and connected through music."
Divine's latest release is "Club Muzik," on her own label.
"A tech house record for the clubs with Ibiza in mind before festival season kicks off," she says. "I've just signed a record called ‘Paradise’ to Defected which will be out in July. I have another record called ‘Scars’ which is coming late September. Summer is a great time to road test records so you can get a feel for what connects."
As for gear: "One of the key pieces of gear I use is the Pioneer DJMV10. I had the mixer on loan from Pioneer during lockdown so I had a head start on it before they rolled it out in the clubs. The output sounds clean and warm especially on club sound systems, which is essential for a DJ. I don’t leave my house without my personalised Notorious B.I.G Sennheiser headphones."
Looking ahead, Divine has plenty planned for the second half of 2026.
"There is lots going on in the 555 camp for this summer," she says. "We have our event at Ministry Of Sound on the May 30 in London. I've created the whole lineup over three rooms. Showcasing some artists that have releases coming up on 555, some friends and Detroit Techno queen DJ Minx. We then roll into our summer residency in Ibiza at Cova Santa for a four-date takeover in June, August and September. We also have a four-date residency at Cyprus’s number one club Castle Club. A 555 boat party in Croatia with the Defected family, and finishing the summer with my new sober event brand 005. As well as playing in Europe, America and a tour in Australia, so loads going on to be excited about."
