Renee Holiday Lights Up The Standard in West Hollywood

Returning from her self imposed hiatus, LA-based singer/songwriter Renee Holiday recently returned to the stage at the Standard in West Hollywood. Blending elements of soul, R&B and blues, Holiday’s 30-minute set featured a sampling of original compositions which included her singles “Ain’t Got No Love”, and “Temptation”, as well as an impressive interpretation of the Gloria Gaynor 1970s disco classic “I Will Survive.” Fans can look forward to the release of her debut album later this year.

“I’m halfway through working on my first album,” says Holiday. “Right now what I am trying to do is get my chops back up and get used to playing live again. I’m testing out new material and seeing what I like performing live. I am experimenting with the sound and figuring out what the direction is, and that’s half the battle.”

"This is a rebirth,” adds Holiday. “This is mature. This is well thought out. These are all of the lessons that I’ve learned through music, love, and patience. This is what I have to offer at this point in my life and in my career.”

Influenced by the soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, and Al Green, among others, Holiday considers herself to be a storyteller by way of a song. Blessed with a multifaceted vocal style she finds inspiration from her passion for history, and the life experiences that define her.

“I am right where I need to be,” says Holiday. “I really feel that not only myself but a lot of people benefit from the stories of the things I have gone through and with the amount of clarity that I have now. Everything happens in its time and has happened organically, that’s how I know its perfect.”

“At the end of the day I am not trying to do anything like anybody else,” adds Holiday. “I think that’s what helps me personally with my confidence. When I listen back to my entire catalog the thing that helps me build confidence in knowing that it is its own thing. Although it might take longer to be on the radar people who know me are going to know who I am and not what someone built me up to be. I find a lot of comfort in sounding like me.”
