An electrifying performance by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings endeared the hearts of faithful fans at her L.A. tour stop at The Wiltern. Hypnotizing the bodies and souls of the Hollywood crowd with her distinctive voice, paired with the band’s unique rhythms and vivacious harmonics, Jones not only delivered a riveting performance with her playful, conversational manner, but she sparked passionate reactions from her audience when welcoming people to dance on stage. In a radiating white dress, Sharon Jones had no shame to talk about her battle with last year’s debilitating diagnosis.

The 57 year-old soulful powerhouse singer hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, is still in recovery after her stage 1 cancer announcement last year. Following an operation, chemotherapy and on-going treatment, she has returned to the stage in prime Jones form. This is most definitely a contributing factor in the development and creation of the Dap-Kings’ fifth album as they deliver what is referred to as their best one yet. Aptly named “Give The People What They Want,” it’s songs not only fulfill their sixties and seventies signature original style but also bring out a feisty, vibrant energy that makes cancer regret ever stepping foot near Miss Jones.

The album and tour dates were postponed since last summer and finally released in January. Jones kicked off her tour with the Dap-Kings entourage starting in February in New York at the Beacon Theatre. Her Los Angeles performance was nothing short of magical, filling the room with her funky and soulful vibes, articulating her every word with an extraordinary fervor and bouncing to each beat. Her tour will continue to major U.S. and European cities, spreading Sharon Jones’ contagious, sweeping healing spirit.
