On May 18th Lykke Li delivered an intimate performance at The Roxy in Hollywood for StubHub’s Next Stage concert series. StubHub’s five city concert series was developed to support emerging artists by offering their talents to music fans across the country.
In addition 100% of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. Echoing the sentiments of all involved, Lykke Li released the following statement: “I’m very honored to participate in an event that ultimately brings music and creative inspirations to the people who need them most: kids.”
Fueled by a good cause, Lykke Li takes the stage sporting an all black ensemble featuring an oversized patent leather jacket that both protects and strengthens her as she plays to a crowd of devoted fans. She is soft-spoken, but make no mistake, her stage presence is intoxicating and commands attention, creating an ambience very few can achieve.
Never have I seen an artist in their own world connect so successfully with an audience. Her devotees’ admiration extends beyond cheers, applause and whistles…Mimicking her whimsical hand gestures and dancing in a trance, it is as though she has hypnotized each and every one of them. The set list was well curated offering a seamless flow of hits and fan favorites, including seven songs off her new album honestly titled, I Never Learn.
Her recordings are far from flat, her live music’s texture shines bright, reflecting off of every surface and person in the room. Newly arranged breakdowns featuring her signature percussion and powerful bass lines move through your body until goose bumps appear on the surface of your skin.
