October is here, and Tuesday I rang it in by seeing the Arctic Monkeys play an exclusive set at Red Bull Sound Space stage in Santa Monica, CA. I had been hearing a lot about how great they are, so I was excited to see this group live for the first time. The Red Bull Sound Space stage is a small venue, and I prefer smaller venues because of the intimate atmosphere they create—small venues allow musicians and audiences to share an intimate relationship with the music.

Without the need of theatrics or gimmicks to ensure an entertaining show, the five men accomplished entertainment solely from being talented musicians and performers. The band tapped into their musical prowess and immersed themselves in their music. Turner in particular looked deeply passionate about the words he was singing, and the gratifying acoustics of Red Bull’s Sound Space amplified their incredible sound. Needless to say, the Arctic Monkeys certainly lived up to their reputation.
