Arctic Monkeys Show at Red Bull Sound Space

October is here, and Tuesday I rang it in by seeing the Arctic Monkeys play an exclusive set at Red Bull Sound Space stage in Santa Monica, CA. I had been hearing a lot about how great they are, so I was excited to see this group live for the first time. The Red Bull Sound Space stage is a small venue, and I prefer smaller venues because of the intimate atmosphere they create—small venues allow musicians and audiences to share an intimate relationship with the music.

Before the Arctic Monkeys played, they answered a few questions, like a mini-interview. Frontman, Alex Turner, took the reigns and he seemed to be a funny guy, entertaining the audience before the music even got started. Through the Q&A, I learned that these Monkeys have consistently made No. 1 albums in the U.K. and are still going strong with their current fifth release. This knowledge only enhanced my excitement.

Without the need of theatrics or gimmicks to ensure an entertaining show, the five men accomplished entertainment solely from being talented musicians and performers. The band tapped into their musical prowess and immersed themselves in their music. Turner in particular looked deeply passionate about the words he was singing, and the gratifying acoustics of Red Bull’s Sound Space amplified their incredible sound. Needless to say, the Arctic Monkeys certainly lived up to their reputation.

Their fifth album, AM, released in the U.S. Sept. 10, 2013 and is available on iTunes.
