Wind-up Records signs SPEAK, band to tour with RAC this fall

1413208840375-6q749a2eij9-cf1135657a7cb6c1f322e1ecd55b380aWind-up Records has announced the latest addition to their roster, SPEAK. The Austin-based quartet is going on tour in support of their new album, Pedals, and are touring as direct support for RAC beginning this week. Additionally, lead singer Troupe Gammage will be performing guest vocals with RAC on tour.

"After seeing SPEAK play live in NYC, it was clear that they were very talented, complex musicians, who made a very organic and pure connection to the audience. They understand who they are and present an honest performance of that each night on stage, especially with their gripping lyrics that tell stories and music that brings everything to life."  - Ed Vetri, Wind-up Records

SPEAK's highly anticipated new album Pedals offers a beguiling mix of fresh experimentalism and confident craftsmanship, splitting the difference between dreamy electronica, hip hop production tricks, rock instrumentation and traditional song structure, channeling their multiple interests into a sound, style and attitude that are wholly their own.

The self-produced 14-song set finds the quartet combining open-minded creative curiosity with expansive musical savvy, from the breezy, uplifting album-opener "Gates" to the effortlessly anthemic "Peaks" to the playfully infectious "Be Reasonable, Diane" to the bittersweet soul of "Mystery Lights" to the lilting acoustic textures of "This Much I Know" to the widescreen psychedelia of the epic closing track "Trials."

SPEAK is comprised of lead singer Gammage, guitarist Nick Hurt, bassist Joey Delahoussaye , and drummer Jake Stewart. The band won a 2010 Austin Music Award for Best New Band and released their acclaimed but underexposed 2011 debut album I Believe in Everything with producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith (Dandy Warhols, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead). Gearing up for the release of Pedals, SPEAK released pre-album singles "Peaks" and "Be Reasonable, Diane" to a massive on-line fan response, and over one million plays on Soundcloud. SPEAK also partnered with the noted remix collective RAC on the #1 Hype Machine tune "I Should've Guessed", and have been remixed by Ra Ra Riot. In addition to doing remixes for Tegan and Sara, Pretty & Nice, and Jars of Clay, the band has also toured with RAC, Tegan and Sara, Ra Ra Riot, Miniature Tigers and Chain Gang of 1974 including festival stops at SXSW, Voodoo, Austin City Limits and Fun Fun Fun Fest. SPEAK is also a Red Bull Sound Select Artist.

In response to the signing by Wind-up, the band says,

"Wind-up is fighting an uphill battle to win over the hearts and minds of a group of jaded young men who've been the through the wringer of the music business.  So far they've shown nothing but patience, enthusiasm, empathy, and ambition, so either we're fortunate enough to have found one of the few good record labels or they're a brilliant group of con-men waiting to reveal their diabolical intentions. Either way we are extremely excited to see what they're capable of, and we hope they use their impressive creative and business acumen for good rather than the industry-standard evil. With glee and trepidation,"-SPEAK

With this signing, SPEAK is joining the ranks of many other great bands on Wind-up Records' impressive roster. Founded in 1997, Wind-up Records is one of the largest independently-owned music companies, whose roster includes talent like Civil Twilight, Jillette Johnson, The Virginmarys, Young Guns, Strange Talk, The Griswolds, and The Revivalists. Wind-up Records has been establishing and breaking multi-platinum artists for decades.
