The Syndicate Expands Alternative Radio Promotion Team

The Syndicate

Independent marketing and consulting firm The Syndicate has announced an expansion of its radio promotion staff. This marks the addition of industry veteran Jerry Rubino as joining the commercial alternative department with decorated promoter, Rob Wilcox.

Rubino boasts over 30 years of credits in the music industry, including a long-standing history of radio promotion for such companies as Rough Trade, Chrysalis, Bar/None Records and Radioactive. On the broadcast side of things, Rubino served as producer/programmer for specialty programs at New York’s WHTZ (Z-100) and WLIR. In the programmer role, Rubino also helped build numerous stations at the previously separate satellite radio giants Sirius and XM. Some of those include Alt-Nation, First Wave, and Left of Center (now called Sirius XMU), as well as music director duties for The Loft. Also serving as on-air talent for Alt-Nation and The Loft, Rubino arranged and hosted more than 450 live artist sessions. During his most recent tenure at CBS Interactive Music Group/Last.fm, he arranged and hosted close to 300 live sessions. Earlier this year, Rubino returned to radio promotion, working as an indie promoter for Bastille, Grouplove, Phoenix, Portugal, The Man and MS MR.

Wilcox joined the Syndicate in 2010 after spending several years at WXPN in Philadelphia as a production assistant for the nationally syndicated program World Cafe, and serving as on-air talent for Y-Rock on XPN. Known as a tireless promoter to his constituents and endlessly enthusiastic about music, he became an essential part of radio campaigns for M83, Japandroids, Spoon, The Gaslight Anthem and The Neighbourhood. Recognition for his work includes being awarded CMJ Specialty Promoter of The Year (2010) and FMQB SubModern Promotion Executive of The Year (2011).

This expansion will further enhance The Syndicate’s radio promotion division which also includes the College, Alternative Specialty, Non-Comm/AAA, and Loud Rock formats. Reinforcing the company’s standing in the industry, The Syndicate received a nomination in each category for this year’s CMJ Radio Awards announced last week. Commenting on the recent additions to the company, founding partner Jon Landman said, “Throughout our 15 years in business, we’ve continually worked closely with Jerry. His experience and infinite passion for music is a welcome addition to our team. Together with Rob’s success at alternative radio, The Syndicate will provide an even stronger service for our clients.”

As a company, The Syndicate was awarded FMQB’s promoter of the year in 2010 and 2011 as well as CMJ’s Promotion Company of the Year each year since 2010. In addition to offering radio promotion, The Syndicate in its 15th year of business offers its clients publicity, marketing, event management and consulting services.
