Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival composer applicants

Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival Seeking Composer Applicants

The Los Angeles Live Score Film Festival features short films with original scores performed live-to-picture. The 2017 festival is presented in collaboration with Helix Collective, the Academy of Scoring Arts and the New York Film Academy. The best short films will be selected by nomination of festival partners and an independent judging panel.

Selected film composers will be paired with a winning filmmaker to create an original score for the Live Score Film Festival. The film will be screened with the score performed live by the renowned performance and recording ensemble, Helix Collective. The screening will include an interview with the filmmakers and composers and a Meet-and-Greet. Awards for Best Picture and Best Musical Score will be presented at the close of the festival.

The awardees are given free studio time to have the music recorded, edited and set to picture for release. Now in it’s fourth year, LALSFF’s goal is to highlight the role of collaboration between composers and filmmakers. Acting like a talent agent, the festival brings experts in the two disciplines together. At the screenings, filmmakers and composers hear and see the work of new colleagues, meet new collaborators and establish working relationships with each other. Additionally, Helix Collective has proven that it is possible to get talented experienced film musicians to play and record for independent films on an accommodating budget.

Composer applications are open to Los Angeles-based composers with a reel and a sample PDF notated score.

Composer video reels (submitted by link via FilmFreeway) may include a selection from a short or feature film, or clips from multiple films, but must not exceed six minutes.

A sample notated score in PDF format should be emailed to [email protected]. Please put “[Your Name] – LALSFF Composer Application” in the subject line.

The sample score does not need to match a clip from your reel.
