New Gear Review: Waves Manny Marroquin Signature Series

theWavesMannyMarroquinThe Waves Audio Manny Marroquin Signature Series Collection is a bundle of custom plug-ins developed in collaboration with renowned mixing engineer Manny Marroquin (Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5). These are six hybrid plug-ins that distill a lot of Marroquin’s mixing style, aesthetic and process that he’s developed over his continuing and storied career.

The Manny Marroquin Signature Series are: Delay, Distortion, EQ, Reverb, Tone Shaper and Triple D. The Series is available in all Native plug-in formats including the new AAX 64-bit for use in Pro Tools 11 HD.

Besides the two delay lines, Manny’s Delay has four more internal processors available running in parallel—to “color” the delay’s sound including: a Reverb section, Distortion, a Doubler to randomize the pitch center of the delay outputs and a Phaser to add a watery phasing effect.

Marroquin’s Distortion plug-in can be used either inline or in parallel. The EQ plug-in is a brilliant idea with four-band equalizer models that use combinations of the cutoff frequencies of various classic hardware EQs.

The Manny Marroquin Reverb is a convolution reverb that models 18 of Manny’s favorite reverbs, Tone Shaper has four parallel compressors split into four separate linear phase EQ bands and is an amazing plug for kicks, snares and toms. Triple D has DeBoxy, DeHarsher and DeEsser modules all contained in one plug-in and is a real problem solver.

I think the Waves Manny Marroquin Signature Series Collection is a well-thought-out set of processors and sells for $500.
