Newman’s debut album is slated for release in mid-2017 and will showcase his modern, yet retro style. A frequent collaborator of Lady Gaga’s, Newman has also worked with such varied artists as Tony Bennett, Dierks Bentley, Willie Nile and Jose Felicano, among others.
To celebrate Newman’s new partnership with Verve, he will perform at an exclusive Art Basel event on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 – 11 p.m. at Miami’s Nobu Eden Roc, also commemorating the hotel’s 60th Anniversary.
Of his new relationship with Verve, Newman comments, “To be a part of Verve Records is an honor beyond belief. As a musician growing up, I idolized Verve and was shaped by their artists and records. Now to be a part of that is the realization of a dream. I am so excited for the future and I can’t wait to get to work as part of the Verve team."
Danny Bennett, President & CEO of Verve Label Group said, “I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Brian Newman and his quintet during the Lady Gaga/Tony Bennett Cheek to Cheek project. Brian is a unique talent that is perfectly in line with the aesthetic of the new Verve Records and our mission to showcase the best in up and coming jazz talent. He respectfully gives a nod to his influences, while simultaneously creating a sound that’s truly his own. ”
Newman is a fixture on the New York City music scene, performing regularly at such popular venues as The Rainbow Room, Feinstein’s, The Rose Bar at The Gramercy Park Hotel, The Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel and more.
